Cathy ni became foster parent to children yang needed perlindungan by chance. That was how she met Dawn. Dawn was her second foster child.
Dawn was thirteen when she came to the care of Cathy's. Her hidden history that took so long to unravel. She sleep walks. Even bila dia sleepwalking pun, the things that she does were mindboggling. She goes out drinking. Runs away from home but comes back to Cathy when she needed to. Skips school. Cuts herself. She keeps herself away from anak Cathy tu bila budak tu dah besar dalam setahun lebih. Bukan keeping self away... More to like being in fear towards the child herself.
Only one thing was clear yang Bapak and his new family doesn't want to do anything with her. And Mak dia pulak, rejects her, just the same her partner, Mike, benci gila kat Dawn. They can't be in the same room together. She even had to stay in her room sampai mamat sengal tu habis makan and blah before she could go out of her room. Sengal tak? Double... Triple blow of rejection for a child like that. Some more, she's so young tau. Baru je umur 13 tahun.
In the end, when everyone became transparent and the truth was out, she finally got the right help. By then, she didn't fuss about it either, didn't run and didn't 'punish' herself for it.

Then the tanda tanya was the vacuum period from age 4-9 years old pulak tu. No one knew where she was. Some claimed she stayed with her mom, ada yang kata stayed with her dad. No one knew where she was. Dawn herself pun tak ingat. Kesian tak? Where was she selama 5 tahun tu?
Not giving so much of the book for you... But every thing came through in the end.
It surprised me in the end that this was a true story. ...Bikos I oso tak perasan that the character's name is the same as the author. And what caught you in the last probable 10 pages will make so much sense and then you realize again that this character isn't made up. Dawn is a real person. And for sure, ramai lagi yang macam dia ni.

I thought it was a good read. Quite inspiring yang membuatkan kita able to quantify our ability as a parent juga, somehow.
